Best Senior Portrait Locations in Nashville & Murfreesboro, TN
Here's something I tell almost every family before we pick a location: I've taken incredible portraits in parking lots and forgettable ones in objectively beautiful places. Location matters — but it's probably the third or fourth most important thing about a session, not the first.
That said, certain spots in Nashville and Murfreesboro do make my job a lot easier. Here are the ones I keep coming back to, and what makes each one worth considering.
Murfreesboro: More Than You'd Expect
Downtown Murfreesboro Square
I'm biased because this is my backyard, but downtown Murfreesboro photographs surprisingly well. The historic courthouse, the brick alleys, the storefronts — there's a quiet editorial quality to it that most people don't expect. If you want something that feels sophisticated without being showy, this is usually where I start the conversation.
Cannonsburgh Village
Weathered wood, old brick, iron fences — golden-hour light hits this place like it was built for portraits. It's warm, textured, and genuinely unique. Seniors who want something earthy and real (as opposed to "field with wildflowers") tend to love it here.
Stones River Greenway
Open sky, winding paths, and that soft, directional morning light that makes everything look like a movie still. I like shooting here early. By 9am the light is already doing half the work for me.
Nashville: Big Energy, Big Backdrops
The Gulch
Murals, industrial architecture, the skyline in the background — The Gulch is vivid and it knows it. It works best for seniors who have a strong visual identity of their own. The location has personality, and you want to match it.
Centennial Park
The Parthenon and the surrounding tree canopy give you a sense of scale that's hard to find elsewhere in Middle Tennessee. These portraits feel grand. If your senior wants images that look like they belong in a frame the size of your living room wall, this is a strong choice.
East Nashville
Painted porches, string lights, boutique storefronts, quiet streets. It photographs warm and intimate — like a conversation rather than a statement. Great for seniors who are thoughtful, creative, a little introverted. The location fits them instead of the other way around.
The Part Nobody Talks About
Here's what I actually care about more than any of this: light. Specifically, the right light for you — your coloring, your features, the mood we're going for. I don't set up anything before you arrive. The first thing I do when you walk in is look at you in three dimensions and decide what's going to make you look the best. The location comes second to that.
This is also why we talk through location choices together during your planning call before we ever pick up a camera. I'll bring a shortlist based on your aesthetic and the time of year. You don't need to show up with a Pinterest board and a plan — that's my job.
